Scarlett

Malus toringo
Scarlett has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit

Scarlett is perhaps the best of the bronze-leaved ornamental crab-apple varieties, and usually grows with a pleasing upright form.

The young leaves are a coppery-red colour, and contrast nicely with the long-lasting solid dusky pink blossom.

The small fruitlets are a deep red colour.

The leaves retain their bronze tints throughout the year, some turning yellow in late autumn. This is one of the last crab-apple varieties to lose its leaves - they stay on the tree well into November.
