Malling Elizabeth is a new plum variety, released to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's platinum jubilee.

The large plums have a light purple skin and juicy golden flesh, and a sweet flavour. They should be ripe at the start of the plum season in July

Growing and Training

Malling Elizabeth is a heavy-cropping variety. The plums are potentially larger than average, but you may need to thin the fruitlets in May for the best results.

It is a self-fertile variety, so you won't need another plum tree nearby to pollinate it.

History

Malling Elizabeth was developed at the famous East Malling Research Centre, and is a cross between two reliable plum varieties - Opal and Herman.
